Human Rights Minister meets deputy head of delegation of ICRC in Yemen

SANA’A January 11. 2023 (Saba) – Minister of Human Rights Ali Al-Dailami, met here on Wednesday, with Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Yemen Ralph Wahba.

In the meeting, the Minister of Human Rights reviewed the conditions of the Yemenis who are being held in the Saudi prisons and the cases of execution and torture that they are subjected to without a legal justification.

He wondered about the international silence on the violations of the Saudi regime against the Yemenis, expressing hope that the ICRC would play its role to reveal the fate of the Yemeni nationals held in the Saudi prisons and help to deliver the bodies of those executed by the Saudi regime to their families.

Al-Dailami handed over to ICRC’s official a list of Yemeni citizens who are threatened with death sentences in Saudi Arabia, stressing the importance of the Committee’s efforts in this regard.

He touched on fallacies of the Saudi regime in dealing with the prisoners’ file, considering that an indicator for the ICRC to handle this file with responsibility.

Al-Dailami talked about other violations against Yemeni girls residing in Saudi Arabia, who were detained without any charges.

For his part, the ICRC’s official said that he would exert pressure to deliver the bodies of the executed to their families and to get acquainted with the conditions of the Yemenis in the Saudi prisons, expressing readiness to receive requests from the families to contact with their relatives in the Saudi prisons.

Wahba said that the committee seeks to contribute to improving the prisons’ conditions according to its priorities and capabilities, adding any partnership in this field is welcome.

He pointed to the importance of the cooperation with the Human Rights Ministry for the ICRC to have access to the prices in order to improve the prisons’ conditions and rehabilitate their staff.
