The ceremony took place amid extremely tight security and in front of world leaders and dignitaries, such as President Kagame of Rwanda and Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa at the capital’s 5,000 capacity Eagle Square venue.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria President-elect has been sworn into office in the capital Abuja today 29th of May 2023, despite a legal challenge to his election from the opposition camp.

A national public holiday was declared and Nigerians without an invitation told to stay away from the ceremony due to security considerations.

Tinubu becomes the 16th president of Nigeria.

His inauguration is the culmination of a life-long ambition to rule Nigeria but he faces huge challenges.

He will have to unite a fractured nation, rescue an ailing economy and fight spiralling insecurity, human rights abuse, poor health sector, financial exclusion and a host of other national challenges faced by the African Nation.

Critics and election observers raised concerns about irregularities, violence, and attempts to disenfranchise voters during February’s poll from all the competing parties.

The incoming President has promised to be inclusive in his operational decisions in order to bring about a level playing ground for the multilateral interests of all the factions in the Nation as well as to adhere by the rule of law.
