Ubisoft, the French Canadian game developer, is currently working on two Far Cry projects, one of which is a single-player experience called Project Blackbird, and the other is a standalone multiplayer game called Project Maverick. These two projects were originally one, but were later split into separate experiences during development.
The multiplayer game, Project Maverick, is set in the Alaskan Wilderness and is described as an extraction-based shooter, featuring mechanics such as permadeath, a backpack system, contracts, lootable chests, and extraction zones. This would suggest Project Maverick is similar to titles such as Escape from Tarkov and The Cycle These projects are planned for release in Fall 2025, although there may be changes made before then. This marks a departure from the series’ previous focus on casual, exploration-focused co-op gameplay.
