‘Quordle’ is a word guessing game inspired by the viral game ‘Wordle.’ However, where Wordle challenges players to guess a single five-letter word in six tries, Quordle presents four words to guess within nine tries. Quordle has recently been acquired by Merriam-Webster, the dictionary company, which is a fitting host for a four-word guessing game.
The acquisition of Quordle marks the third high-profile acquisition of a word guessing game, following the New York Times buying Wordle and Spotify investing in Heardle.
The original creator of Quordle, Freddie Meyer, stated: “I’m delighted to announce that Quordle was acquired by Merriam-Webster! I can’t think of a better home for this game, [there are] lots of new features and fun to come, so stay tuned!” This shows that the acquisition of Quordle is hopeful for the future of the game.
