The system is intended to manage sustainability and reduce the collective carbon footprint of the postal industry. Through the IPC SMMS program, posts across the world have committed to halving their yearly collective CO2 emissions by 2030 compared with 2019 levels. According to the IPC, this industry-wide approach to climate change has enabled posts to reduce their carbon emissions by 34% since the launch of the program in 2008.
