MUMBAI / LONDON — Reliance Industries Limited, the energy-to-technology conglomerate controlled by billionaire Mukesh Ambani, has announced a strategic partnership with British engineering major Rolls-Royce Holdings plc to co-develop, manufacture, and deliver indigenous combat aircraft engines in India.
The alliance marks Reliance’s entry into defense propulsion and aligns directly with New Delhi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative to build sovereign defense manufacturing capabilities.

Building a Domestic Engine for India’s 5th-Gen Stealth Fighter
The primary objective of the alliance is to develop a high-thrust power plant for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA)—the nation’s planned fifth-generation stealth fighter jet program led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
As part of the strategic intent, the two companies plan to explore setting up a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. Envisioned as a center of excellence for propulsion technologies, the facility will cover the end-to-end aero-engine value chain, including:
