The Lagos State Government has promised that the present administration will ensure the protection and enforcement of the fundamental human rights of residents.

According to a statement on Monday, the Director, Citizens Rights Directorate, in the Ministry of Justice, Adetutu Oshinusi, made the promise during an event organised by the directorate in Ketu.

Oshinusi said, “The Lagos State Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate, is always available to attend to all forms of abuses, such as child abuse, psychological or emotional abuse, and domestic abuse, financial or material abuse among others towards curbing them in the state.

“The Directorate for Citizens’ Rights has the statutory functions to ensure the protection and enforcement of the fundamental human rights of Lagos State residents. The ‘One Stop Child Justice Centre’ initiative of the Directorate handles all child-related matters (in collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies) in Lagos State, thereby protecting the rights of its citizens.”

The director noted that the state government will continue to educate the citizens through periodic sensitisation programmes and campaigns, adding that the present administration will bring the full weight of the law on any perpetrator of human rights abuses.
