Harry Kane set to begin talks for new Tottenham deal after January window as Manchester United face transfer blow

World

It’s tough being a Tottenham fan at the moment, but their season no longer looks as bleak as it could have been.

That’s because star striker Harry Kane is now open to signing a new contract with the club, despite assumptions he could finally make a move elsewhere.

Kane looks set to pledge his future to Tottenham

The England captain recently entered the final 18 months of his current deal with the north London outfit.

And with no discussions being had since his potential move to Manchester City in 2021, Spurs fans feared Kane would be on his way out.

But it seems the striker – who has scored 265 goals in 414 games for Spurs – isn’t letting go of his dream of winning trophies with the club he’s spent 19 years of his life with.

According to The Athletic, Kane is open to committing his future to Tottenham if the circumstances are right.

His involvement in England’s run to the World Cup 2022 quarter-finals and Spurs’ operations in the January transfer window meant there hadn’t been an opportunity to discuss his future at the club.

But it’s understood conversations are now planned for after the window slams shut.

In addition to this, Kane’s representatives have not held serious discussions over an exit.

Kane’s stance will be welcomed by the Spurs fanbase, with manager Antonio Conte’s future at the club looking uncertain and their slip in form in the Premier League.

The 29-year-old is currently chasing the club’s all-time goalscoring record – which he could go level with against Fulham on Monday – and his side are still competing in the FA Cup and Champions League this season.

The reports will come as a blow to Manchester United, though, who are still looking for a permanent replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo and had been linked with Kane.

Wout Weghorst has signed on loan from Burnley for the rest of the season, but Erik ten Hag is likely to be looking to bring in a long-term, proven Premier League goalscorer in the summer.
