Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, James Lawless TD, has invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) from qualified individuals to fill up to three vacancies on the Board of Directors of Skillnet Ireland.

Appointments will be for a three-year term, with the aim of strengthening governance and shaping the strategic direction of one of Ireland’s key workforce development bodies.

Skillnet Ireland, established in 1999 and operating under the aegis of the Department, is primarily funded through the National Training Fund. It supports enterprise-led training and skills development across sectors and regions.

Minister Lawless stated:

“I encourage those with relevant experience and a passion for shaping Ireland’s workforce future to submit their expressions of interest. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to national skills and innovation policy.”

Board Responsibilities:

Board members oversee governance, strategy, performance, risk management, financial oversight, and stakeholder engagement. The board operates through three key committees:

  • Audit and Risk
  • Finance and General Purpose
  • Evaluation and Performance Monitoring

As part of upcoming structural reforms in 2025, the board will be reconstituted to better reflect the input of both enterprise and employee stakeholders, while aligning with the Government’s governance priorities. Notably, only two of the three board positions may be filled immediately, pending adoption of Skillnet Ireland’s revised Constitution.
