Ryanair has officially commenced construction on a €40 million environmentally sustainable aircraft maintenance hangar at Dublin Airport. Spanning 120,000 square feet, the new facility will feature four bays dedicated to supporting the growing fleet of Ryanair’s 737-8200 aircraft, which are among the most fuel-efficient and eco-friendly in the airline industry.
The 737-8200 models not only offer a 4% increase in passenger capacity but also reduce CO2 emissions by 16% and noise pollution by 40%, aligning with Ryanair’s ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. In addition to maintaining these advanced aircraft, the new hangar itself will be a leader in sustainability. It will incorporate cutting-edge gas absorption heat pump technology, designed to reduce energy consumption by up to 35%, making it one of the most energy-efficient maintenance facilities in the EU.
Ryanair’s Chief Operating Officer, Neal McMahon, emphasized that the construction of the new hangar demonstrates a strong commitment to both growth and sustainability. The facility will not only enhance Ryanair’s operational capacity but will also create over 200 highly skilled jobs for engineers and mechanics, further contributing to Dublin’s economy. This development underscores Ryanair’s dedication to investing in environmentally conscious infrastructure as part of its broader commitment to sustainability.
