The arctic blast covering most of the United States is crushing the secondhand ticket market for Saturday’s game in Pittsburgh between the Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders.
Even though both teams are 6-8 and in need of miracles to make the playoffs, the game still figured to be a draw as the Steelers were set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception as well as officially retire Franco Harris’ No. 32 during a ceremony.
All of that took on an additional layer of sentimental value when Harris suddenly died this week just days before the ceremony.
However, ticket prices on the secondhand market have completely bottomed out just a little more than 24 hours ahead of kickoff.
On StubHub, tickets are going for as little as $10 and $14 for upper-level seats and as low as $60 on the lower level.
It is a perfect storm (quite literally) of events that are driving prices down.
For starters, it is an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff on Christmas Eve, which already makes it difficult for fans to attend.
Add in the fact that temperatures will be in the single digits with windchills somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 degrees below zero, and it is certain to be a miserable experience to sit through.
As if that is not enough, it is not a great matchup as both teams have microscopic chances of even making the playoffs.
The weather and holiday are almost certainly the two largest driving factors, though, as tickets for the Steelers’ Week 18 game against Cleveland (another game that will probably have little meaning) are still going for close to $60 as the low point.
