Virginia Tech junior Georgia Amoore made women’s NCAA Tournament history in the Hokie’s Final Four loss to LSU on Friday.
In the third quarter, Amoore made her 23rd 3-pointer of the tournament, setting the all-time mark held previously by Arizona’s Aari McDonald (2021) and UConn’s Kia Nurse (22), per ESPN Stats and Info.
Amoore entered Friday’s Final Four contest against LSU only three 3-pointers away from the record. She finished the night 4-of-15 from beyond the arc, scoring 17 points in total with three rebounds and two assists.
Unfortunately, Amoore and the Hokies didn’t have enough to get past No. 3 LSU on Friday, falling 79-72. While Virginia Tech seemed to have things in control early in the second half, the Tigers exploded in the fourth quarter, outscoring Virginia Tech 28-13 to advance to the National Championship Game.
Even though her season ended against LSU, the Hokies guard had a standout campaign to remember in 2022-23.
In a recent poll of anonymous players conducted by The Athletic, Amoore received the most votes for college basketball’s most underrated player.
Over 35 regular-season games, Amoore averaged 16.3 points, 5.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds, earning All-ACC first-team honors.
Amoore was named the ACC Tournament MVP, scoring 25 points in Virginia Tech’s 75-67 win over Louisville in the conference final. After helping the Hokies nail down a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, Amoore averaged 22.6 points and 2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game.
