Sports has the power to unite and bring people closer.

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka shared this sentiment during the launch of Fiji Rugby Women’s 2023 campaign alongside Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong in Nadi yesterday.

“I acknowledge the achievement of our women’s rugby team in all competition. I also acknowledge our Fijiana Drua team that made the entire nation proud by winning the Super W competition in their maiden season,” Mr Rabuka said.

He said through the PacificAus Sports, it had assisted in developing sports in the country, including the Olympic Games bronze medal win for Fijiana 7s team in 2021 and also for winning the Super W competition last year.

“The PacificAus Sports has allowed our athletes to compete and play at the highest level.”

Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong acknowledged the instrumental role that PacificAus Sports had towards the development of sports in Fiji.

“It has also been instrumental in catapulting women’s rugby in Fiji,” said Ms Wong.
