Sustainable Mass-Timber Offices : mass-timber office

A mass-timber office was erected in Shoreditch, London. The building was designed by the local studio Waugh Thistleton Architects for The Office Group. The project was aptly named the Black & White Building and the floor plan spans 4,480 square meters.

The firm heavily relied on prefabricated materials. The facade is eye-catching and playful. The architectural firm used a strategically curated combination of three types of wood, including beech, pine, and spruce timber. The aesthetic of the structure’s silhouette adds an interesting aesthetic emphasis in the neighborhood where Victorian buildings are dominant. The mass-timber office stands out as the tallest building in the area.

About the aesthetic of the Black & White Building, the Waugh Thistleton Architects stated “there is no narrative here, it is pure modernism.”
