Subscription-Based Private Newsletters : substack 1

Trends
Substack now allows users to create “private” Substacks that can be subscribed to by request. The request will then show as emails in the host’s inbox, where writers can accept or reject it. The reader will instantly sign up for the private newsletter when authorized, and from there, they can view the writer’s private forum and interact with community members.

“Private Substacks are great for keeping in touch with friends, building communities of interest, and testing the waters for a new publication,” reads a blog post from Substack published Thursday.

Users of Substack can alter their settings to choose if their blog is private or public, and readers won’t be able to access or view any posts after they are made private unless they voluntarily subscribe. Private Substack owners also have the option to “host alone,” which is likely code for publishing a newsletter for personal use only.
