In Europe, the majority of plastic waste is recovered into new products, rather than being buried as landfill.

If you’re wondering why Sweden’s rate is so low, given the country’s famed environmental record, it’s because the country incinerates a lot of plastic for heat and energy – a different kind of recycling, and one which doesn’t get counted in these statistics.
