June 28, 2025 – Atlanta, GA
Nearly 400 flights were canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday following a night of severe weather that included strong thunderstorms and hail.
According to data from FlightAware, one of the leading flight tracking platforms, both inbound and outbound flights were significantly affected, causing widespread disruptions to air travel through one of the world’s busiest airports. The cancellations represent one of the largest single-day travel disruptions at the airport so far this year.
The National Weather Service reported that intense storms moved through the Atlanta metro area late Friday night, bringing damaging winds and hail that prompted multiple weather advisories. No injuries were reported, but airport operations were heavily impacted by storm damage and safety concerns.
Delta Air Lines, which operates its primary hub at Hartsfield-Jackson, was among the carriers most affected. The airline issued travel waivers, allowing passengers to rebook without additional fees.
Airport officials advised travelers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and arrive early due to potential delays in security and check-in lines.
This weather-related disruption comes at the peak of the summer travel season, when passenger volumes are already near pre-pandemic levels. Airlines and airport authorities are working to re-accommodate affected passengers and restore normal operations as conditions stabilize.
Travelers are urged to monitor official channels for updates and plan accordingly.
