Rihanna Thinks ‘Fluidity In Fashion Is Best’ When Styling Her Son

Entertainment

In January 2022, when fans learned Rihanna and A$AP Rocky were expecting their first mini-me, talks of the baby’s future closet crowded the internet. Over a year later, Rihanna has finally given a verbal peek into her son’s wardrobe in a new cover interview with British Vogue’s Giles Hattersley.

Much like her style during pregnancy, Rihanna said she’s not into traditional baby clothes. Instead, she prefers to tap on colors, patterns, and outfits that lean toward his parents’ style. Even if this means paying for custom-made clothes, which they reportedly “often” do.

“I like to dress him in things that don’t look like baby clothes. I like to push it. I put him in floral stuff…I put him in hot pink…I love that,” Rihanna told British Vogue. “I think that fluidity in fashion is best. I always shop in the men’s department, you know.”

British Vogue‘s March cover is their son’s first magazine shoot–and one of the rare times the public has seen footage of their little one since she gave birth in May 2022.

In the cover shot, photographed by Inez & Vinoodh, the baby wore a Chrome Hearts diaper cover. Rihanna told BV she loved his “little gothic look,” which also featured his shrunken curls, bare belly, arms and legs, and a wide grin with heat-melting capabilities.

Rihanna Seemingly Confirms Fenty Kids Brand After Filing Trademark App In January

Rih’s favorite outfit worn by her son is a custom-made miniature version of a look worn by A$AP Rocky. It’s a tartan kilt worn with jeans that Riri purposely ripped a hole into.

“When you come up with something in your head, half the time it is not available because kids’ clothes are so…they’re sooo boring,” she said. “I’m like, ‘this is what y’all been doing to these people’s kids all along?”

So what’s her plan for these ‘boring’ kids clothes? During her BV interview, Rihanna seemingly confirmed a Fenty Kids brand is forthcoming. When writer Hattersley told Rih that it sounds like the world needs Fenty babywear, she reportedly agreed.

“I feel like the kids need it,” the Diamonds singer said. “Let’s get these kids cool, these kids deserve to be cool.”

We first learned of Rih’s potential plans to expand the Fenty brand last month. Attorney Josh Gerben shared a screenshot of a U.S. trademark filing by Roraj Trade LLC, a company owned by Rihanna with multiple U.S. trademarks, on January 20. The filing lists clothing, beachwear, footwear, sleepwear, cloth diapers, and infant sleepers.

It also suggests that Rih may be considering a maternity or postpartum line featuring body shapers, underwear, and bras. As of Wednesday, the trademark application is still “awaiting assignment to an examining attorney.” An amendment was also made to the application on Feb. 9.

Her company allegedly filed a similar application to trademark Fenty Kids in the United Kingdom on January 23, 2023.

Rihanna And A$AP Rocky Are Keeping Their Son’s Name Private…For Now

While we may have gotten that peek into his closet, we’ve yet to learn the baby’s name. The parents are still keeping that aspect of his life private, and it’s unclear how long they’ll hold this secret. Judging by how long it took us to see his face–about six months since his birth–it could be a while.

In the Vogue write-up, writer Hattersley said Rihanna, Rocky, their families, and teams consistently referred to the Fenty empire heir as “baby”–careful not to let his birthname slip.

The one thing we know for sure is that if all goes well in Rihanna’s current pregnancy, her firstborn will be interacting with a sibling by this time next year. The singer revealed baby bump number two during her Super Bowl halftime performance on Feb. 12.  A rep confirmed her second pregnancy shortly after the performance wrapped.
