Recruiting headlines in the state of Tennessee

Sports

We’re inching closer the Early Signing Period which begins on Wednesday, December 21st and there are plenty of storylines to follow when it comes to the top prospects in the state of Tennessee.

Rivals.com takes a look at the latest recruiting news surrounding the top talent in the Volunteer State.

Will Marcel Reed stick with Ole Miss?:

Reed has been a longtime commitment for Ole Miss, but the four-star prospect is currently evaluating all of his options. Auburn hosted Reed for an official visit two weekends as new head coach Hugh Freeze is looking to add a talented signal-caller or two to the 2023 class. Texas A&M is another program making a push for the 6-foot-2, 180-pound prospect, as he was in College Station this past weekend for an official. Reed is set to be a mid-year enrollee, so we’ll see if Lane Kiffin and the Rebels can hold on to their talented quarterback pledge.

Who lands Demitrius Bell?:

Bell is currently the highest-rated prospect in the state who remains uncommitted. The four-star had a brief summer commitment to Michigan State before reopening his recruiting process in August. Schools that Bell has consistently mentioned throughout the fall have been Georgia, Kentucky, Ole Miss, and Alabama. He took an official visit to Kentucky back in October and he’s good friends with Wildcats freshman wide receiver Barion Brown, so Kentucky could be in the driver’s seat but time will tell as this will be an intriguing recruitment to follow.

Four team race for rising safety:

Phillips had a big senior season and power five schools started to take notice. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect has taken official visits to Virginia, Virginia Tech, and his most recent to Georgia Tech this past weekend. Oklahoma has also been making a late push. Those are the four schools Phillips is considering heading into the Early Signing Period as he’ll be a mid-year enrollee.

Another QB prospect could be Power Five bound:

New Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze is already very familiar with Brown as the three-star had been a longtime Liberty commit before backing off his pledge on December 3rd. Now, Freeze is interested in adding Brown as part of his initial 2023 class at Auburn. The prolific passer took an unofficial visit with the Tigers a couple of weeks ago. UAB is another program Brown recently visited as his former high school head coach, Trent Dilfer, is now the head man for the Blazers. Brown, who is coming off a season where he threw for 3,264 yards with 47 touchdowns, is considering both programs heading into the Early Signing Period.

Colorado pushing for 3-star WR:

New Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is looking to bring in top talent nationwide, he recently extended an offer to Page, who returned the interest by taking an official visit to Boulder this past weekend. Virginia Tech is another school making a push for the talented playmaker out of Blackman (Tenn.).
