Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he will meet U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday, a high‑stakes encounter that signals growing alignment between Washington and Kyiv on a potential path to ending the war with Russia.
Speaking in Kyiv, Zelensky described “significant progress” on the latest draft of a U.S.-led peace proposal, which he said is now roughly 90 percent complete. The plan—variously reported as 20 to 28 points—covers security guarantees for Ukraine, future economic cooperation, and the unresolved territorial disputes that remain the central obstacle to any agreement.
The White House confirmed the meeting, scheduled for 3 p.m. local time, as part of an intensified diplomatic push to secure a framework for negotiations before the end of the year. U.S. officials have been pressing Kyiv to refine its position after earlier drafts sparked controversy over concessions to Moscow.
Russia, meanwhile, has accused Ukraine of attempting to “torpedo” the process, insisting that any settlement must reflect its demands on territory and security. Those issues—particularly the status of occupied regions and control of critical infrastructure—remain the most contentious elements in the talks.
Zelensky has framed Sunday’s meeting as a decisive moment. “A lot can be decided before the New Year,” he said, underscoring hopes that the discussions with Trump could narrow the remaining gaps and set the stage for a broader diplomatic breakthrough
