Police investigating fan incident with Rockies mascot

The Denver Police Department is investigating a possible assault that occurred earlier this week during the Colorado Rockies home game against the St. Louis Cardinals.

During the incident in question, a fan appears to tackle the Rockies mascot — “Dinger” — while the costumed character is cheering atop the first base dugout.

According to a TMZ Sports report, police “became aware” of the incident “shortly after it happened.” Per the report, the police department told TMZ Sports on Thursday that they were now “working with (their) partners at the Colorado Rockies to identify the suspect.”

Although the Rockies won Monday’s game 7-4 over the Cardinals, they’re off to a slow start this spring. Colorado entered Thursday in last place in the NL West with a 5-8 record.

Rockies fans haven’t had much to cheer for since the franchise made its only World Series appearance in 2007 (falling to the Boston Red Sox in four games). The team has made the postseason just three times since then and has finished in either fourth or fifth place in the division (and out of the playoffs) in each of the last four years.
