Trends
Charles Gaines presents his latest exhibition at the Hauser & Wirth Gallery located in New York, unveiling the Southern Trees show. It is filled with vibrant tones and invites the guests to draw a connection to the pieces throughout the series as they can be viewed from close and peripheral perspectives. The exhibition references the 150-year-old pecan trees that are actually in all of the artworks.

There are 17 in total and it is photographed on a visit to the Boone Hall Plantation in South Carolina’s Charleston County. The shoe crescendos as the work build upon one another as guests make their way through the space. To explain, the first watercolor in the gallery is a single tree entirely in blue followed by an additional red tree in the piece that follows.
