Oslo, 19 March – The Government of Norway today announced the allocation of 70 million Norwegian Kroner (approx. 6.6 million USD) to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to strengthen partnership and support the Organization’s response to pressing migration and humanitarian needs worldwide. The funding agreement was signed during a two-day, high-level consultation between the Government of Norway and IOM in Oslo.

Thanks to Norway’s generosity and trust, IOM will be able to address growing humanitarian needs and help vulnerable migrants and displaced communities” said IOM Director General Amy Pope. “The funding will make a real difference to the lives of migrants and the displaced people we assist around the world, especially those impacted by humanitarian crises.”
Thanks to flexible, unearmarked funding, the contribution will address priority humanitarian needs identified in IOM’s Global Appeal 2024, including assistance to displaced persons and host communities affected by crises, conflicts and climate change. The allocation will also support IOM’s Migrant Protection, Return and Reintegration programme in North Africa, which provides protection assistance to vulnerable migrants.

Speaking at the high-level meeting, IOM Director General Amy Pope highlighted that saving lives and protecting people on the move, finding solutions to displacement, and facilitating regular migration pathways are foundational to IOM´s New Strategic Plan.
Norway is one of a few donor countries whose share of Official Development Assistance (ODA) contribution has remained around 1 per cent of its Gross National Income (GNI) and is an important contributor of unearmarked funds to IOM.
