eBay has named the winners of its latest University Machine Learning Challenge, an annual competition in which students compete to create innovative ML-powered solutions that solve for a real-world ecommerce problem.
Each winning student will be awarded a 2025 summer internship at eBay:
Wei Ren, University of Washington
Kangqi Wang, University of Southern California
Huapeng Zhou, University of Washington
Junsol Kim, University of Chicago
This year’s eBay Motors-themed challenge included 530 student participants from 121 U.S. universities and colleges. Their mission: Build a model that helps shoppers identify parts and accessories that fit their specific vehicle – a type of compatibility known as “fitment.”
By focusing each year’s competition on an actual ecommerce scenario, and equipping participants with real datasets to build from, eBay’s University Machine Learning Challenge gives students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, while also helping the company recruit promising new engineering talent.
