Maya Jama reveals she was left fearing for her safety thanks to a stalker

Love Island host Maya Jama revealed this week she once feared for her safety after being harassed by a stalker. 

Maya, 28, spoke about the terrifying events to the Daily Star, revealing the stalker once showed up to her house and even snuck into an event pretending to be her brother just to meet her. 

Maya said it happened in her early twenties and the obsessed fan messaged her friend and roommate to say he was outside their house.

‘He messaged my friend who I lived with at the time, saying, ”I am near your house,” Maya explained. 

She said she was once at the International Somali Awards when he got inside by pretending to be her brother. 

‘I hugged him because I assumed I’d already met him,’ she said, saying he was acting creepy towards her.

Maya said she used to give away more details about her location on social media but has since smartened up. 

‘After that I became more careful. It can happen to everyone,’ she said. 

Maya has been in the spotlight for years, having presented shows including Maya’s FIFA World Cup Cities, The Circle and Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star.

She’s also had high-profile relationships, including with rapper Stormzy and NBA star Ben Simmons. 

She now hosts the new season of Love Island, having replaced Laura Whitmore. 

It’s been suggested that producers plan to keep her on the show for a while as she’s ‘now a major TV force to be reckoned with’.

Industry expert Jonathan Shalit explained: ‘Maya is quite simply fantastic – a true star and now a household name.

‘She has nailed the role of Love Island host totally and shown herself to be a world A-list star.

‘She is now a major TV force to be reckoned with.’

Meanwhile, a source went on to add to the publication that the ‘electric’ launch was stuff that ‘a marketeer’s dreams are made of’ and will no doubt see plenty of people rushing to watch the ITV2 show on catch up.
