LSU’s Nabers arrested for illegal carrying of weapon

Rising junior wide receiver Malik Nabers had one heck of a season for the LSU Tigers in 2022. In fact, he led the team in receptions and receiving yards, notching 72 catches for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns.

Nabers still has quite a chance to be a star for the Tigers going forward, but it’s worth noting that his junior season may be carrying the cloud of off-field issues over it.

NOLA.com is reporting that the 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver was arrested on Monday on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. He was charged with illegally carrying a weapon.

“He was arrested about 7:30 p.m. when officers on foot patrol in the French Quarter noticed an “L-shaped object” in his front pants pocket, the website reported. Members of the New Orleans Police Department asked whether he had a permit. When he told them he didn’t, they handcuffed him and brought him to the Orleans Parish Justice Center.”

Nabers will be faced with a misdemeanor and could face the maximum fine of $500 and a six-month sentence. At this time, LSU’s only comment has been that head coach Brian Kelly is aware of the situation and the school is gathering information.

Nabers was released on Monday and wasn’t required to post bail, but he was due back in magistrate court on Tuesday to appear before Magistrate Commissioner Jay Daniels.
