Locals use eco-friendly Christmas trees for Christmas | Goa News

Environmentalist-architect Tallulah D’Silva, she remembers her time as a child during Christmas season. “When I was younger, my father would take us to cut a branch from the casuarina trees at Miramar and we used to decorate it. But they would wither within two weeks. This time of the year gives a lot of people opportunities to make their own Christmas trees out of paper and other eco-friendly material. There are a lot of new and interesting ways one can use to make their Christmas trees.”
Mathew Dias from Margao makes his tree using paper and old wires. “I had made this tree some 20 years ago, using crepe paper and used wires. It looks exactly like a Christmas tree brought from the market. We keep it extremely safely for the entire year and a month before Christmas I check if any amendments are needed to be made.”
Manisha Fernandes from Santa Cruz said that she used cardboard to make her tree. “This year, we decided to make Christmas tree of used cardboards. These cardboards were cute in tree format and we used green, yellow and white colour shades on it. We also sprinkled some glitter on it.”

Xmas trees made using empty bottles

Katherine Dias from Raia decided to use the empty tomato sauce bottles to make her Christmas tree. “We have some empty bottles and we used them to make the Christmas trees which are covered with shades of green crepe paper.”
