On February 28, KT announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Converge ICT Solutions INC, a Philippine Internet Service Provider (ISP), for the development of digital transformation (DX) business cooperation in the Philippines.
The signing ceremony was attended by KT CEO Koo Hyun-mo, KT Global Business Head Moon Sung-wook, Converge Founder Dennis Anthony H. UY, and Converge Co-Founder and President Maria Grace Y. UY.
Under the agreement, KT will provide a range of DX services to customers in the Philippines through cooperation with Converge in areas such as Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS), Mobility as a Service (MaaS), IDC, and e-commerce based on artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, and big data.
The two companies also plan to establish a joint venture to further develop their DX business in the country.
This collaboration builds on the 2018 partnership between KT and Converge, in which KT awarded Converge a KRW 53 billion fiber network construction project to expand its coverage across the Philippines.
This construction project built a 1,570-kilometer stretch of fiber network and communication conduits in the northern part of Luzon Island, enabling Converge to provide better internet services to the residents of Luzon.
With this new MOU, the two companies aim to combine Converge’s local business capabilities in the Philippines with KT’s advanced DX technology to provide tailored DX services to the Philippine market.
The partnership will also allow KT to introduce its DIGICO strategy, which is the driving force behind its growth, to the Philippines and expand its business to neighboring Southeast Asian countries.
