Johnson takes over for 49ers after Purdy leaves with injury

Sports

The San Francisco 49ers keep running out of quarterbacks.

Rookie Brock Purdy was injured on the first drive of Sunday’s NFC Championship Game when he was sacked by Hassan Reddick. Purdy left with an elbow injury and is questionable to return.

He was replaced by veteran Josh Johnson.

It continues an unbelievable run of bad quarterback luck for the 49ers who already lost Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo to injuries this season.

Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft and has come out of nowhere to help save the 49ers season. The team is 8-0 with him as a starter including 2-0 in the playoffs.

For most teams being down to a fourth string quarterback in the NFC championship game would be a devastating blow.

But not only are the 49ers one of the leagues best teams with a loaded roster, they have proven time and time again they do not need a top shelf quarterback to win and are capable of winning deep into their depth chart.
