Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been recharged with aggravated menacing stemming from a road rage incident over the winter.

The news was first reported by the Cincinnati Enquirer on Friday morning. The charges were first issued on Feb. 2 after Mixon allegedly pointed a gun at a woman during the incident. The initial charges were dismissed on Feb. 3 so police could conduct a further investigation.

Per the Enquirer, the charge is a first-degree misdemeanor, which is “the most serious level” of misdemeanor.

The alleged occurrence happened the afternoon of Jan. 21, “shortly” before Mixon was due at Paycor Stadium to join the Bengals for their trip to Buffalo to face the Bills in the playoffs. The 2021 Pro Bowler has been summoned to appear in court on April 19, according to reports.

The Bengals released a statement on Friday regarding the investigation.

The team said that it was “aware” of the charges against Mixon and was “monitoring the situation,” but the Bengals didn’t have any further comments.

This is far from the first time that the 26-year-old has been in headlines for the wrong reason.

Despite a solid college career at the University of Oklahoma, Mixon fell to the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft due in part to his misdemeanor assault charge in October 2014. During the incident, he punched a female student, causing broken bones in her face that required hospitalization and surgery.

Last month, it was reported that police responded to Mixon’s home after an alleged shooting in his neighborhood. An injured child was found at the scene and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The former Sooner wasn’t arrested, but the investigation is ongoing. In mid-March, Mixon’s sister and her boyfriend were charged, but according to reports, a prosecutor said the running back wasn’t because “he did not commit a crime.”
