Jazeera Airways is enhancing the passenger experience and delivering critical business outcomes with the installation of Burrana’s innovative USB in-seat power solution on its Airbus A320 and A321 fleets.

Each passenger will benefit from USB-A and -C outlets to power and charge their personal electronic devices with a system that provides equitable power at every seat, with multiple levels of redundancy, delivering high reliability. Burrana achieves this with a 48VDC architecture, with intelligent power sharing distribution and load shed management that enables all passengers to enjoy their personal devices for the duration of the flight, not needing to worry about running out of battery.

With sustainability goals critical to the programme, Jazeera Airways sought partners to reduce weight, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The airline partnered with ultra-light seat vendor Expliseat and Burrana to deliver what is said to be the world’s lightest combo seat, the new TiSeat + Burrana USB Power, “saving 1,200kg per A320 cabin”.

“Burrana’s USB Power solution is the natural choice to reach our massive weight saving target of 1.2 metric tons per aircraft, without compromise on passenger comfort as USB charging has now become an essential element of Jazeera Airways passengers’ experience,” said Rohit Ramachandran, Chief Executive, Jazeera Airways.

11 aircraft (9 x A320, 2 x A321) flying all economy are to be retrofitted with Burrana USB power with certification via EASA STC. The first aircraft to be retrofitted is planned for December 2023.

“Burrana loves powering up extraordinary passenger experiences and delivering value to our airline partners by enhancing operational efficiencies, increasing revenues, all while minimising capital and operating expenditure,” said Dave Pook, VP Customer Experience, Burrana. “We applaud Jazeera for challenging our industry to do and be better for future generations.”
