Japan will design, develop, and operate a pressurized Lunar rover for NASA, for crewed and uncrewed exploration on the Moon.
NASA’s Administrator Bill Nelson, and Japan’s Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Masahito Moriyama, shook hands on a deal to help folks sustainably explore the Moon. They want to send a special car to the Moon so astronauts can roam around more and do more work.
NASA will handle getting the car up there, and they’re offering two rides to Japanese astronauts to join in on the lunar fun.
They sealed the deal on April 9 at NASA HQ in Washington, with Hiroshi Yamakawa from JAXA also there to put his signature on the paper.

Today, President Biden and Prime Minister Kishida also announced, “a shared goal for a Japanese national to be the first non-American astronaut to land on the Moon on a future Artemis mission, assuming important benchmarks are achieved.”
