Fox 11 out of Los Angeles has reported that former New England Patriots defensive star Willie McGinest was arrested Monday morning for assault with a deadly weapon.

According to the story and TMZ Sports, McGinest turned himself into the LA County Sheriff’s Station in West Hollywood around 7:30 a.m. local time and spoke with authorities regarding an alleged incident said to have occurred at a nightclub on Dec. 9. McGinest’s bail was set at $30,000, and the 51-year-old posted bond and was released later in the morning.

It’s unclear exactly what McGinest is accused of doing that has him charged with a felony. Per Paulina Dedaj of Fox News, he is next due to appear in court on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. local time.

The Patriots made McGinest the No. 4 overall pick of the 1994 NFL Draft, and he spent 12 seasons with that organization. Along with earning three Super Bowl rings as part of the New England dynasty, he accumulated a league-record 16 postseason sacks.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection was voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 2015.

According to Sean Keeley of The Comeback, McGinest has spent time working as an NFL analyst for Fox Sports, ESPN, and NFL Network/the league’s website following his retirement after the 2008 season. McGinest’s NFL.com author page shows his last piece on that website was published in August.

The West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station is still looking for additional information regarding the alleged assault.
