Dublin, 3 October 2025 — Severe weather from Storm Amy has caused mounting disruption at Dublin Airport, where dozens of flights have been cancelled and further delays are expected as high winds sweep across Ireland.

Widespread Disruption

Airport authorities confirmed that at least 58 flights had been cancelled by late Friday, with airlines warning of additional cancellations as conditions deteriorate. Some flights were diverted to Shannon, Kerry, and UK airports, while Donegal Airport closed entirely due to safety concerns. Smaller disruptions were also reported at Cork and Knock airports.

Power Outages and Safety Warnings

The storm has left more than 180,000 homes and businesses without power, particularly in Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Cavan, and Donegal, according to the Electricity Supply Board (ESB). Emergency services have urged the public to heed weather warnings, with Met Éireann issuing a Status Red wind alert for Donegal and Status Orange warnings for several western counties.

Broader Impact

Beyond aviation, rail and road travel have also been affected, with fallen trees and flooding reported in multiple regions. Sporting fixtures, including League of Ireland football matches, were postponed, and schools in parts of Northern Ireland closed early as precautionary measures.

Outlook

Authorities have cautioned that further cancellations and delays are likely into the weekend as Storm Amy continues to bring damaging winds and heavy rainfall. Passengers are advised to check directly with airlines for the latest updates before travelling to the airport.
