A team of scientists at the University of Technology Sydney over in Australia have developed a high-tech AI platform that is designed to be able to help severely infertile men achieve fatherhood by leveraging artificial technologies to allow for precise sperm identification.
This particular AI platform, which is dubbed ‘SpermSearch,’ is designed to assist men who suffer from non-obstructive azoospermia or NOA, a condition which results in sperm being absent from ejaculate. Typically, treatment for this condition requires embryologists to separate samples to isolate sperm, which can be a time-consuming process.
This is where the ‘SpermSearch’ AI platform comes in. This technology was trained on thousands of images, enabling it to precisely identify sperm.
While this technology is currently just a proof of concept and is a very long way from ever being utilized on patients, what’s more important is that the platform is a fine demonstration of the power of AI in sperm detection.
