Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center gave an update on the status of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin on Thursday morning, and he has made remarkable improvement in the past 24 hours, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero — so much so that he was even able to ask doctors who won Monday’s game between the Bills and Cincinnati Bengals after he awoke on Wednesday night.

Hamlin collapsed on the field during Monday’s game after suffering cardiac arrest and has been in the ICU in critical condition ever since.

Dr. Timothy Pritts said on Thursday that Hamlin is awake, responding to doctors’ commands and is able to communicate with them through writing. He is not yet able to speak, however, due to still having a breathing tube.

Pritts said that Hamlin expressed “surprise” that he was not awake and with the world over the past two days.
