Architecture practice office S&M finishes its own office that is located inside of a former paint-making workshop in Hackney, London. There is an entire wall that is full of material samples and areas that are dedicated just for modeling and sketching. The workspace is made to work as a laboratory in order to support its exploration of materials “that are both practical and fun.”
The studio is led by the expertise of architects Cartrina Stewart and Hugh McEwen who enjoy experimenting with materials and colors. McEwen explains to Dezeen that “For this workspace, we particularly used an electric blue and a bright yellow to contrast with each other and make the space larger. At the same time, because the workspace is south facing, we used the blue to cool the light and even out the warmth of the sun when looking at samples or drawings.”
