Applications for two Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) applicant‑led funding opportunities were paused while the council implemented behind‑the‑scenes changes to support this transition.
Reopened funding opportunities
The following funding opportunities are now live:
These reopenings follow the earlier reopening of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) applicant‑led funding opportunities.
Always open funding opportunities
Moving to ‘always open’ funding removes fixed deadlines, helping to smooth application demand and reviewer availability, while providing greater flexibility for applicants.
Improved experience
Dr Jef Grainger, BBSRC’s Associate Director for Science Strategy, said:
The move to an always open model is an important step in improving the experience of applicant‑led funding for the community.
We’re pleased that all paused schemes are now open again.
Looking forward
Looking ahead, this year will see a pipeline of additional funding opportunities supporting the delivery of our new mission.
UKRI will also begin to launch its strategic priority programmes alongside applicant-led funding opportunities that enable researchers to bring forward the best ideas at any time.
