The plane is powered by a 50kWh battery Li-ion battery that will deliver up to 200-miles of range per charge with an additional 20-minutes of reserve power. The battery powers the four 25kW electric motors within to easily handle payloads up to 400-pounds. The electric plane is capable of cruising at speeds between 30 and 41mph, and has a flight engine with six processors to handle the data coming in from the LiDAR, radar, GPS and laser technologies.
CEO and Co-Founder Michael Norcia commented on the Pyka Pelican Cargo autonomous electric cargo plane saying, “We designed this plane to eliminate CO2 emissions from the logistics chain, while offering a significant speed advantage over ground transportation and operating costs at a fraction of conventional air transportation.”
