April 2025 – Illinois, USA

Global investment firm Apollo has announced a $400 million joint venture with Summit Ridge Energy (SRE) to accelerate the deployment of commercial solar projects across Illinois, building on an earlier $175 million investment made in 2022. The move cements Apollo’s position in the clean energy sector and reinforces its broader strategy to support U.S. energy independence and climate resilience.

“This represents a compelling opportunity to invest in solar projects poised to contribute domestic power generation capacity to meet growing electricity demands,” said Corinne Still, Partner at Apollo, in a public statement.

A Major Boost for U.S. Commercial Solar

Summit Ridge Energy, one of the leading commercial solar operators in the U.S., currently manages over 2 gigawatts (GW) of solar projects either in development or operation across seven states, supplying energy to more than 40,000 homes and businesses. The Illinois-focused joint venture will expand this pipeline further, enhancing grid stability and supporting local energy needs.

“As we expand our footprint of solar assets, Summit Ridge Energy is advancing a more reliable and locally driven energy system,” said Adam Kuehne, Chief Investment Officer at SRE.

Strategic Investment in the Energy Transition

Apollo has committed $58 billion in climate and energy transition-related investments over the last five years through its managed funds and affiliates. The firm’s recent climate strategy focuses on what it calls a “new industrial renaissance,” aimed at bolstering domestic clean energy manufacturing, infrastructure, and job creation.

The Apollo–Summit Ridge partnership is positioned not just as a financial investment, but as a critical component in reshaping America’s energy landscape—supporting decarbonization, grid modernization, and long-term sustainability goals.
