Since 1998, the border between Ethiopia and Eritrea in eastern Africa has been closed as the two countries fought a long war over territory.
However, in September 2018, the countries allowed certain land crossings to reopen. Embassies have reopened. Flights and phone calls can be made across the border.
Since then Ethiopia, Eritrea and Somalia have signed a joint pledge to restore peace and stability. Ethiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, won the Nobel Peace Prize. Things are looking up in the region.
