The Kansas City Chiefs solidified its spot in the AFC Conference Championship Game on Saturday, knocking off the Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-20 in the divisional round.
Following the Chiefs’ victory, the NFL is only a Buffalo Bills’ win away from the first neutral-site playoff game, minus the Super Bowl, in league history.
If the Bills defeat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta will host the AFC title game. Meanwhile, if the Bengals are victorious, they’ll travel to Kansas City to play for the right to go to the Super Bowl.
The NFL found itself in a winless situation following the jarring, life-threatening event suffered by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, which led to the postponement of Week 16’s contest against the Bengals.
Failing to play a full 17-game season, Buffalo missed out on a chance to secure the No. 1 seed, which went to the Kansas City Chiefs.
In the interest of fairness, the NFL decided that if the Bills and Chiefs met in the conference title came, it would take place at a neutral site.
If a neutral-site game comes to fruition, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be rocking. The NFL announced on Friday that season ticket holders for both the Chiefs and Bills bought 50K tickets on the first day they were available.
And for those worried about a stadium-wide brawl, don’t fret. The NFL planned out the ticket release to make sure fans of the opposing teams would be seated on their respective teams’ sides.
