British boxing star and former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria’s Ogun State on Monday, an accident that left two people dead, according to local police.
Authorities say the 36‑year‑old sustained minor injuries when the vehicle he was travelling in collided with another car along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway. Images from the scene showed Joshua alert as emergency responders assisted passengers from the damaged vehicle.
Police in Ogun State have opened an investigation into the cause of the crash, which involved multiple occupants and reportedly occurred near a busy stretch of highway. Witnesses told local media that Joshua had been seated in the back of a Lexus SUV at the time of the collision, with his security detail following in a separate vehicle.
Joshua has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
The crash comes just days after the boxer’s high‑profile bout in Miami, adding a dramatic and tragic turn to what had been a celebratory period for the former world champion.
