Atlanta, 2 October 2025 — U.S. electric vehicle maker Rivian has broken ground on a $1 billion manufacturing facility in Georgia, a project set to anchor production of its next-generation R2 sport utility vehicle and R3 crossover from 2028.
The plant, spanning nearly 2,000 acres across Jasper, Morgan, Newton, and Walton Counties, is expected to create 7,500 direct jobs and nearly 8,000 indirect jobs by 2030, generating more than $1 billion in annual labor income. Economic modeling suggests the project will deliver one of the most significant industrial impacts in the region’s history.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe described the facility as a cornerstone of the company’s global ambitions: “This plant provides the scale we need to put millions of drivers in our all-electric vehicles both in the U.S. and abroad.”
Green Manufacturing and Regional Growth
The investment aligns with Georgia’s strategy to position itself as a hub for clean energy industries. Governor Brian Kemp hailed the project as “another milestone in bringing quality, good-paying jobs to Georgians.” The site will integrate industrial capacity with environmental stewardship, including recreation trails and a “Rivian experience trail” for employees and visitors.
Workforce and Community Integration
Rivian is partnering with Georgia’s universities and technical colleges to develop training programs in advanced manufacturing, engineering, and battery technology. The company has also engaged local communities, hosting events to build support and ensure the project contributes to regional development.
A Platform for Innovation
Once operational, the Georgia plant will serve not only as a production hub but also as a platform for innovation in EV design and supply chain sustainability. Built in two phases, the facility is projected to reach an annual capacity of 400,000 vehicles, reinforcing U.S. leadership in clean transport manufacturing.
