The Panama Canal Authority has officially launched a tender process for the construction of a $6 billion liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipeline linking the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The proposed infrastructure aims to support a daily capacity of 2 million barrels, reflecting a strategic response to rising U.S. propane and butane exports to Asian markets.
The project seeks qualified engineering firms to design and build the transoceanic pipeline, which would enhance the canal’s role as a critical energy transit corridor. By facilitating more efficient LPG transport, the initiative is expected to bolster regional energy logistics and global trade connectivity.
The tender marks a significant step in Panama’s efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure and accommodate shifting global supply dynamics.
