Hyundai has announced a delay of up to three months in the construction of its electric vehicle battery plant in Georgia, attributing the setback to the recent detention and deportation of hundreds of workers during a federal immigration raid.

The raid, which targeted subcontracted labor at the facility, led to significant disruptions in the workforce, halting progress on key phases of the project. The delay stems directly from the sudden loss of labor and not from internal management or planning issues.

The Georgia plant is a cornerstone of Hyundai’s $7.6 billion investment in U.S. clean energy manufacturing and is expected to generate thousands of jobs upon completion. The company stated it is working to stabilize operations and ensure compliance with labor regulations while cooperating fully with federal authorities.

The incident has raised broader concerns about labor practices in large-scale infrastructure projects and the vulnerability of supply chains to enforcement actions.
