📍 Lagos, 6 September 2025 — Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery has exported its first shipment of petrol to the United States, marking a historic milestone for Africa’s largest oil processing facility. The consignment, totaling approximately 300,000 barrels of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), departed from the refinery’s Lekki jetty on 26 August aboard the vessel Gemini Pearl, with delivery expected at terminals in New York or New Jersey later this month.

This is the first direct gasoline export from Nigeria to the U.S., underscoring the refinery’s growing role in global energy markets. Since commencing operations in 2024, the $20 billion facility has significantly reduced Nigeria’s reliance on imported fuel and begun supplying refined products to regions including the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Industry analysts note that the shipment coincides with tightening fuel inventories on the U.S. East Coast, creating favorable conditions for transatlantic supply. The move positions Dangote as a swing supplier capable of responding to global market fluctuations.

With a full design capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the refinery is expected to reshape trade flows and enhance energy security across West Africa and beyond.
