The Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht has announced €4 million in funding for 2025 as part of its ongoing strategic partnership with Coillte, aimed at enhancing recreational infrastructure and promoting tourism in rural Ireland.
This funding forms part of a broader €15 million commitment for the period 2022–2026, supporting the development and maintenance of public amenities on Coillte-managed lands.
Investment in Rural Recreation
The 2025 allocation will fund:
- Maintenance works at 169 sites across the country
- Development of 17 new recreational amenities, including locations such as Belleek, Co. Mayo and Woodstock, Co. Kilkenny
- €1.4 million in additional funding to repair trails damaged by severe storms earlier this year
These investments aim to improve access to outdoor spaces, support local tourism, and stimulate economic activity in rural communities.
A full list of funded sites and projects is available from the Department.
