📍 Helsinki/Vienna, July 11, 2025 — On the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Secretary General issued a joint statement honoring the memory of more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys killed in July 1995. The leaders expressed solidarity with survivors and families, emphasizing that nearly 1,000 victims remain missing, and that the pursuit of truth and justice must continue.

🕊️ Condemning Denial and Revisionism The statement strongly criticized ongoing genocide denial, calling it a “crude attempt at the revision and erasure of history” that undermines reconciliation efforts. The OSCE reaffirmed the findings of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the International Court of Justice, and domestic courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina, all of which recognized the events in Srebrenica as genocide.

🏛️ Commitment to Democratic Institutions and Rule of Law Through its Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the OSCE pledged continued support for:

  • Strengthening democratic institutions
  • Advancing human rights and dialogue
  • Promoting accountability for war crimes
  • Combating ethnic and religious discrimination

🤝 Regional Appeal for Peace and Cooperation The statement urged political leaders across the Western Balkans to reject divisive rhetoric and work toward a future rooted in peace, dignity, and cooperation. It emphasized that only by confronting the past can societies build a stable and inclusive future.
