The United Nations has raised serious concerns over the escalating displacement crisis in Sudan’s Blue Nile state. Thousands of civilians have been forced to flee their homes due to increasing insecurity, with local authorities estimating that around 4,000 people have been displaced from towns such as Ullu. Many are heading towards the state capital, Ed Damazine, about 230 kilometers away. Approximately 600 people have already arrived and are sheltering at a displacement site.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric highlighted that ongoing violence and bureaucratic barriers have hindered humanitarian access to the affected areas, exacerbating the crisis. Furthermore, the situation is complicated by the arrival of refugees fleeing neighboring South Sudan, adding strain to the already fragile region.
This lack of aid access is deepening the humanitarian emergency in Blue Nile, and the UN has called for urgent efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected.
